Sut explained that she came up with the idea for Blowdry Taxi when she found that she had no time to get her hair done between working and taking care of her young child. A straightforward mobile platform and some marketing later and the company is running strong, with hundreds of clients.
Ladies (and gentlemen) of Capitol Hill – have I got a great, new service for you! So long to the days of making an appointment weeks in advance and traveling to H St or Georgetown to get your hair styled before a big event. Blowdry Taxi comes right to you.
Sona Sut founded Blowdry Taxi last year. The idea came from her celebrity hairstylist husband who often travels to hotels to do celebrities’ hair. She thought about how little time working moms and busy professionals have to go to a salon, and decided to bring the stylists to you – whether you’re at home, work or at the gym.
The service is on-demand, and you can book up to one hour in advance using their website or app. She starts appointments before salons open, at 6:30am, so if you have a big interview or a professional event you can fit in a blowout before work. Sona works with 12 stylists, several of whom are full-time. Since starting the business, she finds they mostly do hair for working moms and parties.
